Lindy Hop by Fred Becker, 1935[-]40

Fred Becker's 'Lindy Hop' captures the electric energy of the Harlem Renaissance dance craze that swept the nation in the 1930s. Created for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Federal Art Project, this dynamic woodcut print shows dancers with exaggerated, joyful expressions and elongated limbs, perfectly mirroring the wild, improvisational spirit of the dance. The swirling lines and stark black-and-white contrast make the figures look like they're practically vibrating off the page, inviting the viewer right onto the dance floor. It's a fantastic snapshot of a time when music and movement offered a joyful escape from the hardships of the Great Depression.
