You Can't Do That!
1914
Frederick Coffay Yohn captures a tense, dramatic moment on a ship's bridge in this moody 1914 scene. Three weathered sailors, bundled in heavy coats and caps, huddle around the ship's wheel as if navigating through a fierce storm or a critical maneuver. The expressive, loose brushwork and dark, stormy palette give the piece a cinematic urgency, perfectly reflecting Yohn's background as a celebrated American illustrator who brought high-stakes adventure stories to life for magazines like Harper's. It's a masterclass in visual storytelling that makes you wonder what disaster they are trying to avoid!
