A Scene in Tours
1927
Frederick G. Hall captures a charming slice of life in Tours, France, in this 1927 print, playfully juxtaposing the old and the new. A crumbling, ornate Gothic building with pointed arches stands squeezed between a sturdy stone structure and a bustling modern shop with a striped awning. In the foreground, a banner literally spells out 'A Scene in Tours,' as if the artist is winking at the viewer, while locals chat and relax in the street.
