William B. Foster
1905
Think of this as a vintage 'property of' sticker, but make it epic! This 1905 ex-libris (bookplate) for William B. Foster features a grand sailing ship with a coat of arms on its sail, braving a choppy sea under billowing clouds. Two sea monsters curl up at the bottom, framing the name like mythical bookends. Designed by Frederick Garrison Hall, it captures the romantic era of book collecting where even a library label was a miniature adventure into nautical fantasy.
