Nude with Fan
1920
George Bellows captures a candid, unposed moment here, far from the stiff, idealized nudes of the academic past. The woman sits casually on rumpled white sheets, a dark, floral robe slipping off her shoulders as she clutches a vibrant blue fan. Through the window behind her, a peaceful green landscape peeks out, contrasting with the intimate, slightly melancholic mood of the room. Bellows was a key figure in American realism, and even in this quiet domestic scene, his bold, expressive brushstrokes bring a raw, human energy to the canvas.
