A Sunday on La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, 1884

Georges Seurat spent two years meticulously applying millions of tiny dots of pure color to create this bustling Parisian park scene, pioneering the technique known as Pointillism. Instead of mixing paints on a palette, he let the viewer's eyes blend the vibrant hues from a distance, resulting in a shimmering, almost optical illusion-like effect. The stiff, statue-like figures lounging by the Seine River were a radical departure from the spontaneous brushstrokes of the Impressionists, forever changing the course of modern art.
