Der Stammgast – bereit!
1917
Gordon Grant’s 1917 recruitment poster uses a realistic style to portray the American soldier as a stoic, timeless hero. Framed by a laurel wreath of victory, the 'Regular' soldier clutches his rifle with a steady gaze, embodying the slogan 'He Was - He Is - He Will Be.' This bold graphic design was created during World War I to urge men to enlist in the infantry, turning military service into a noble, inevitable duty. You can even spot the artist's signature, Gordon Grant, right next to the rifle barrel.
