Piedistallo con la Tavola dei Diritti dell'Uomo
1735 - 1815
Guillaume Boichot sketched this design for a monument that literally puts the 'Rights of Man' on a pedestal. Six draped figures, looking like ancient muses, gather around a central tablet as if studying a sacred text, while a decorative frieze with theatrical masks sits above them. The heavy fabric at the top belongs to a statue that would have towered over the scene. This piece perfectly captures the Neoclassical vibe of the French Revolution, where new democratic ideals were dressed up in ancient Roman style to look timeless and grand.
