Tetti, Parigi
1909-1912
American artist Henry Lyman Saÿen traded the States for Paris right when the art world was exploding with radical new ideas. Instead of painting a polite, realistic postcard view, he gave us this vibrant, almost candy-colored skyline where a bold pink building takes center stage. Notice the chaotic forest of chimneys? They look like they're dancing against the clouds, showing off Saÿen's love for the jagged shapes of early Cubism and the wild colors of Fauvism. It’s a classic Parisian view, but remixed through the eyes of a modernist outsider.
