Album of Famous Works from Song and Yuan Dynasties (Gu Embroidery) · Landscape in the Style of Mi Fu
Look closely at those misty mountains—they aren't painted with ink, but stitched with silk! Han Ximeng, a Ming Dynasty master of 'Gu Embroidery,' created this landscape to mimic the famous style of Mi Fu, using thousands of tiny stitches to create the illusion of wet ink wash. The calligraphy on the left praises her 'needle painting,' noting how she captured the wild spirit of the original masters. It’s a perfect example of how embroidery was elevated to high art, blurring the line between thread and brush.
