Woman folding a kimono by Hashiguchi Goyō

Hashiguchi Goyō was a key figure in the *shin-hanga* movement, which blended traditional Japanese woodblock printing with modern realism. Here, he depicts a woman intently folding a kimono, her posture creating a graceful, sweeping curve that highlights his obsession with female beauty. Goyō was a notorious perfectionist who often carved the woodblocks himself to achieve these bold, precise lines. Tragically, he died at just 41, making this 1920 print one of his final, masterful explorations of everyday elegance.
