Scena sul ghiaccio
Hendrick Avercamp, affectionately known as 'the mute of Kampen' because he was born deaf and mute, captured the sheer joy of a Dutch winter in this bustling frozen landscape. The ice is absolutely packed with life: elegant couples glide by, children play a game resembling early hockey, and a horse-drawn sleigh carries well-dressed passengers through the crowd. Despite the chilly, pale sky, the scene radiates warmth and community, showcasing Avercamp's incredible talent for painting tiny, expressive figures. As one of the first Dutch Golden Age artists to specialize in winter scenes, he turned a frozen canal into a vibrant stage for everyday life.
