眠るマルス
1629
Look at the Roman god of war, completely knocked out! Hendrick ter Brugghen captures Mars not in the heat of battle, but slumped over in a deep, peaceful slumber, his heavy head resting on his armored hand. The shiny, meticulously painted breastplate and plumed helmet contrast hilariously with his relaxed, mustachioed face and the bright red breeches peeking out. Even the drum and sword nearby can't keep this weary warrior awake, proving that even gods need a good nap after a long campaign.
