Lucien Guitry
1898
Toulouse-Lautrec captures the famous French actor Lucien Guitry with his signature swagger and impressive handlebar mustache in this 1898 portrait. The sketchy, energetic lines give Guitry a look of quiet confidence, almost as if he's just finished a brilliant performance and is basking in the applause. You can spot the artist's distinctive monogram tucked away in the bottom left corner, a classic hallmark of his graphic works.
