Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains (Master Wuyong Scroll) - Main Painting 2
Huang Gongwang spent his final years crafting this breathtaking ink wash landscape, capturing the serene beauty of the Fuchun River with rugged peaks and delicate pines. But this masterpiece has a wild backstory: in 1650, a dying collector tried to burn it to take it into the afterlife! His nephew snatched it from the flames, but not before it was sliced in two. This surviving section, known as the 'Useless Master Scroll,' now rests in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, showcasing the masterful brushwork that defined Yuan Dynasty painting.
