Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains (Master Wuyong Scroll) - The Remaining Mountain
Huang Gongwang painted this legendary landscape in his early 80s, capturing the serene Fuchun River with loose, expressive ink brushstrokes. It is often called the 'Mona Lisa' of Chinese painting and took years to complete. The artwork survived a dramatic near-death experience in 1650 when a collector loved it so much he ordered it burned for his funeral; his nephew snatched it from the flames, but it was ripped into two parts. This section, featuring rugged peaks and dense forests, is part of that famous split history.
