Air
Jacopo Bassano captures the essence of 'Air' through a chaotic and lively hunting scene, a hallmark of his Venetian Renaissance style. On the left, a falconer proudly shows off his bird while a woman sits amidst a feathered menagerie of turkeys, geese, and rabbits. In the center, a hunter takes aim with a long gun, while eager dogs scramble over the catch in the foreground. High above in the stormy sky, a figure rides a chariot, connecting the earthly hunt to the heavens. Bassano was a master at filling his canvases with bustling activity, often blending peasant life with allegorical meanings.
