The Arnolfini Portrait by Jan van Eyck, 1434

Step into a 15th-century bedroom where a wealthy merchant and his wife stand holding hands, surrounded by a tiny dog, discarded wooden clogs, and a single burning candle. Jan van Eyck packed this Northern Renaissance masterpiece with so much incredible detail that you can see the reflection of two tiny figures in the convex mirror on the back wall. He even signed his name right above that mirror, essentially leaving a medieval version of 'I was here' graffiti to prove he witnessed the scene.
