View At Skjolden In Lyster
1843
Johan Christian Dahl captures the rugged beauty of Norway in this 1843 landscape, featuring a dramatic fjord surrounded by towering mountains and cascading waterfalls. In the foreground, rustic wooden cabins with grass-covered roofs sit beside a beached Viking-style boat, while tiny figures gather nearby, emphasizing the immense scale of nature. Painted during the Romantic era, this piece celebrates the wild, untamed spirit of the Norwegian countryside, a theme Dahl championed throughout his career as the 'father of Norwegian landscape painting.'
