Op de rivier de Stour
Constable revolutionized landscape painting by sketching outdoors to capture fleeting weather, rather than creating stiff, idealized scenes. This energetic view of the River Stour showcases his famous choppy brushwork, where thick dabs of white and green paint make the trees look like they're rustling in a breeze. It's a raw, emotional snapshot of the English countryside that actually paved the way for the French Impressionists decades later.
