Estudo de céu com arco-íris

Estudo de céu com arco-íris by John Constable, 1827

John Constable was absolutely obsessed with the sky, producing hundreds of these rapid, atmospheric sketches to capture the fleeting moods of nature. In this moody 1827 study, a delicate, glowing arc of yellow and blue cuts dramatically through a heavy, slate-grey wash of clouds. Rather than painting a perfect, polished landscape, Constable embraced the raw, emotional power of the Romantic movement by focusing purely on the weather itself. These quick studies were his secret laboratory for understanding light and atmosphere, eventually helping him create some of the most famous landscapes in British art history.
