北極アジサシ
1827-1838
John James Audubon captures the Arctic Tern in a breathtaking mid-dive, its long, forked tail streamers trailing behind like ribbons in the wind. This plate comes from his monumental book 'The Birds of America', where he insisted on showing birds in their natural habitats rather than as stiff, scientific specimens. To get these dynamic poses, Audubon would often shoot the birds and wire them into lifelike positions before sketching them—a somewhat gruesome method that resulted in incredibly vibrant art. The bright red beak and feet pop against the cool blue background, showcasing his mastery of color and detail.
