聖傑雷米亞
1913
John Singer Sargent traded his stiff society portraits for the fluid freedom of watercolor during his trips to Venice, and this piece is a perfect example. He captures the Church of San Geremia bathed in soft, hazy light, its large dome and tall bell tower rising above the canal. Dark, silhouetted gondolas glide across the foreground, their forms reflected in the rippling blue-grey washes of the water. It feels like a fleeting, sun-drenched moment caught on paper, showing why Sargent considered these watercolors his true 'hobby' and escape from fame.
