托马斯·杰斐逊
1788
John Trumbull captured Thomas Jefferson in Paris in 1788, just before the French Revolution really kicked off. You can see Jefferson sporting his signature powdered wig and a rather dashing blue coat with gold buttons, looking off into the distance with rosy cheeks. Trumbull was actually living next door to Jefferson in Paris at the time, which made for convenient sitting sessions! This intimate portrait shows the founding father not as the older president we often see on the nickel, but as a young diplomat in his prime.
