High Cost of Living
Floating in a giant block of mustard yellow is a tiny, mustachioed man who looks like he's just realized his grocery bill has doubled. This satirical page by Mexican master José Guadalupe Posada features a poem complaining that 'commerce goes up and up' while salaries stay stagnant. While Posada is world-famous for his spooky *Calavera* skeletons, he was also a sharp social critic who used cheap broadsides to mock the struggles of everyday people. The tiny head emphasizes how small the individual feels against the massive, rising cost of living.
