Landschap met koeien
Jules Dupré captures the quiet drama of the French countryside in this moody landscape. Notice how the cows aren't just props; they're chilling under the trees, completely unbothered by the massive, swirling sky above them. Dupré was a pioneer of the Barbizon school, a group of artists who ditched the studio to paint nature directly outdoors—a radical idea back in the 1830s! The way he paints the wind-bent trees and heavy clouds makes you feel like you can almost hear the breeze rustling through the grass.
