Little Fanny and her friend Tommy take a stroll in this delightful page from Kate Greenaway’s 1878 breakthrough book, *Under the Window*. Fanny is sporting a gigantic, ruffled green bonnet that the poem teasingly compares to her 'ancient Grannie's,' while Tommy holds a hoop she supposedly gave him. Greenaway’s nostalgic vision of childhood was so popular that it actually dictated Victorian fashion; parents across England started dressing their children in the frilly, old-fashioned clothes seen here just to mimic her famous 'Greenaway style'.
