三駝圖-題跋

Li Shida

三駝圖-題跋 by Li Shida

Serving as the witty 'commentary track' to Li Shida's famous Ming Dynasty masterpiece *Three Camels*, this calligraphy page is full of hidden jokes. The text playfully narrates a reunion of three camels named Zhang, Li, and Zhao, but it's actually a sharp satire on human nature. In Chinese culture, the camel's hump is often compared to a hunchback, so the poems mock the crooked posture of the animals to suggest that 'there are no straight people left in the world.' You can see different artistic voices here: the wild, cursive script on the right contrasts with the rigid, upright characters in the center by Lu Shiren, showing how multiple scholars added their own voices and red seals to this scroll, turning it into a centuries-old group chat.
