Faulenzer Peter
1890
Meet the ultimate strict teacher in this 1890 illustration by Lothar Meggendorfer. A lanky, caricatured man with a comically long nose and a green cap leans in to shake hands with a wide-eyed, nervous-looking boy. The teacher clutches a long stick—hopefully just a pointer!—while a random picture of a rhinoceros hangs on the wall behind them. Meggendorfer was a German master of caricature and famous for inventing mechanical 'movable' books where pulling tabs made characters dance, bringing moral tales like this one to life.
