Zinnien
1924
Lovis Corinth painted this vibrant bouquet of zinnias in 1924, the very year he died, and you can feel the urgency in every thick slash of paint. After suffering a stroke years earlier, his style shifted from realistic to this wild, expressive energy where flowers look like they're exploding off the canvas. The heavy impasto technique makes the petals look almost sculptural, bursting with reds, yellows, and pinks against a dark, moody background. It's a perfect example of how his late work bridged Impressionism and German Expressionism, turning a simple flower arrangement into a riot of color and emotion.
