Cuccioli che giocano
1779
Two fluffy puppies are caught in a delightful moment of play in this 1779 masterpiece by Maruyama Ōkyo. The brown pup is completely upside down with its paws in the air, looking like it just took a tumble, while the white companion sits calmly, almost judging the chaos. Although created during the ukiyo-e era, Ōkyo actually founded the Maruyama school, which prioritized 'shasei' (sketching from life) over stylized woodblock prints. This focus on realism makes the fur look incredibly soft, turning a simple scene of dogs playing into an 18th-century version of a viral pet video.
