滑冰
1922
Max Beckmann’s 1922 work 'Ice Skating' (Eislauf) is a chaotic, jagged scene that looks less like a graceful winter sport and more like a street brawl. Angular figures with elongated limbs tangle together, with one skater delivering a high kick to a bystander while others look on with grim, mask-like expressions. The striped clothing and sharp, scratchy lines capture the nervous, fractured energy of Weimar Germany following the trauma of World War I. Beckmann, who served as a medic in the war and suffered a mental breakdown, used this Expressionist style to show the world not as it looked, but as it felt—crowded, aggressive, and slightly unhinged.
