La serpiente robada

La serpiente robada by Nils Dardel, 1931

Swedish artist Nils Dardel cooked up a visual riddle in 1931 with this vibrant, dreamlike scene. Three enormous, electric-blue kingfishers dominate the sky, working together to snatch a long green snake right out of the landscape. Below them, a tiny nude woman sits on a green hill, gazing up at the avian heist with a mix of wonder and helplessness. It’s a playful nod to post-impressionism, where bold colors and flattened perspectives turn a simple nature scene into a mysterious, almost mythological story.
