L'arte celeste
1894
Odilon Redon invites us into a dreamlike realm where music floats on the air. On the right, a massive, serene profile of a bald figure—perhaps a monk or a dreamer—gazes downward in deep contemplation. Hovering nearby is a tiny, winged angel playing a string instrument, seemingly serenading the giant head. This 1894 lithograph is a classic example of Symbolism, a movement that cared more about feelings and dreams than realistic snapshots. Redon was famous for his mysterious 'noirs' works that explored the subconscious, and here he captures the invisible power of music touching the human soul.
