Roger en Angelica
1910
Odilon Redon transports us straight into a fever dream with this swirling, mystical scene. Based on the epic poem *Orlando Furioso*, it depicts the knight Roger flying on the mythical winged horse, the Hippogriff, to rescue the beautiful Angelica from a terrifying fate. Redon was a master of Symbolism, a movement that cared more about feelings and the subconscious than realistic details. Notice how the colors—deep indigos, glowing yellows, and misty greens—seem to float and blend? That's because Redon switched to pastels later in life, creating these ethereal, cloud-like textures that make the whole composition feel like it's dissolving into magic.
