Vision - Vase of Flowers
1900
Odilon Redon started his career painting dark, spooky dreamscapes, but later in life, he became obsessed with the radiant beauty of flowers. In this vibrant bouquet, bright red poppies and delicate white daisies seem to float and glow against a hazy, dreamlike background, almost as if they are emerging from a memory rather than sitting on a table. This shift to color was a hallmark of his Symbolist style, where he aimed to paint the 'vision' of a subject rather than just its physical reality. The loose, shimmering brushstrokes give the flowers an ethereal, almost musical quality that makes them feel alive.
