Eine pissende Kuh by Paulus Potter, 1650

Paulus Potter, the Dutch master famous for painting cows as if they were portraits of kings, takes a hilariously candid turn in this 1650 etching. Titled 'A Pissing Cow' (or 'En pissende ko'), the piece features a large bovine relieving herself in a field, with a very distinct stream hitting the ground. Two sheep lounge nearby, seemingly ignoring the spectacle, while a tiny windmill sits on the horizon. Potter died at just 28, but his obsessive study of livestock anatomy is clear here—he even captured the texture of the cow's hide and the tension in its legs with incredible precision.
