In attesa di attraversare il fiume d'autunno - Rotolo appeso, Carta, 112.5x46.3, Ex collezione del Palazzo Qing
Sheng Mao's 'Waiting for the Ferry on an Autumn River' captures a serene, misty landscape where a lone figure sits beneath towering trees, patiently waiting for a boat to cross the vast, calm river. The composition is split between the intimate foreground of textured rocks and foliage and the distant, hazy mountains, creating a dreamy sense of depth. As a former treasure of the Qing imperial palace, this ink-on-paper masterpiece perfectly embodies the scholarly ideal of finding peace in nature's quiet, contemplative moments.
