瀬戸内 by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, 1880

Under the glow of a full moon, the legendary blind musician Semimaru sits beneath a thatched roof, deeply focused on playing his biwa lute. This atmospheric scene comes from Tsukioka Yoshitoshi's famous series '100 Aspects of the Moon,' where he paired historical and mythical figures with lunar imagery. Yoshitoshi was one of the last great masters of ukiyo-e, using bold lines and a moody color palette to bring this melancholic prince to life. It's a beautiful example of how Japanese prints could capture both quiet solitude and deep emotion.
