Dr. Gachet by Vincent van Gogh, 1890

Vincent van Gogh etched this striking portrait of his physician, Dr. Paul Gachet, during the final months of his life in 1890. The doctor, looking weary and contemplative as he clutches his pipe, was meant to capture the 'heartbroken expression of our time.' Van Gogh actually created two painted versions of this same subject, but this piece is the only print he ever made in his entire career. It's a hauntingly intimate glimpse into the artist's final days, showing his signature swirling lines translated into stark black and white.
