Calmado
1931
Kandinsky, a pioneer who could literally 'hear' colors due to a condition called synesthesia, created this geometric composition during his time teaching at the famous Bauhaus school. Titled 'Calmed' (Beruhigt), it looks like a visual symphony where sharp, spiky triangles and rigid rectangles finally settle into a large, soothing blue semi-circle. He believed that the circle was the most peaceful shape and blue was the color of the infinite, making this piece essentially his recipe for visual tranquility. It’s a fascinating look at how he tried to paint music and spirituality using nothing but math and geometry.
