Milton, a poem in 2 books Pl.26
19th century
William Blake was the original multimedia artist, refusing to separate his poetry from his visuals. On this page from his epic *Milton*, he uses his unique illuminated printing method, wrapping dense, mystical text about the 'Sons of Los' in vibrant bands of red, yellow, and green. It looks less like a book page and more like a stained-glass window made of words, guiding the soul through gates from 'Dover Cliff' to 'Tizard Point.' Blake believed that natural causes were just a delusion, and this colorful, chaotic page is his attempt to show us the spiritual reality underneath.
