우아한 미인화 판화와 회화
초분사이 에이는 일본의 우키요에 화가였다. 성은 호소다(細田), 이름은 도키토미(時富)이다. 통칭은 타미노스케(民之丞)이며, 후에 야사부로(弥三郎)로 개명했다. 가노 에이센인 노부노부(狩野 栄川院 典信)의 문하생이다. 쇼군 직속 가신이자 후지와라 씨 일파인 부유한 사무라이 가문의 장남으로 태어났다. 에이는 쇼군의 가신으로 500 고쿠(약 9만 리터)의 쌀을 연봉으로 받았다. 에이시는 쇼군 이에하루의 직위를 사임하고 예술의 길을 걸었다. 그의 초기 작품은 주로 우키요에 판화로, 자신이 확립한 독창적인 스타일을 바탕으로 키요나가와와 우타마로와 유사하게 키가 크고 마른 우아한 미인을 그린 비진가가 많았다. 그는 자신의 학교를 설립하여 우타마로의 경쟁자가 되었다. 그는 다작의 화가로, 1801년부터 판화 디자인을 포기하고 회화에 전념했다.
