Ferdinand Kobell

Ferdinand Kobell foi um pintor e gravador alemão. Kobell nasceu em Mannheim. Ele estava estudando na Universidade de Heidelberg quando o Eleitor da Baviera, admirando uma paisagem, o ajudou a dedicar todo o seu tempo à pintura. Ele tornou-se aluno de Peter Verschaffelt. Em seguida, estudou arte em Paris (1768-1769). Ao retornar, foi nomeado pintor do Gabinete (pintor da corte) e, mais tarde, professor na Academia. Em 1793, mudou-se para Munique. Foi nomeado diretor da Galeria de Mannheim (1798), mas morreu em Munique, antes de assumir suas funções. Ele especializou-se em paisagens, seguindo o estilo de Berchem, e sua obra mostra um estudo cuidadoso dos efeitos naturais. Suas pinturas a óleo estão em várias galerias alemãs (Karlsruhe, Darmstadt, Stuttgart e Augsburg), mas seu trabalho como gravador tem maior importância. Suas águas-fortes (cerca de 300) foram publicadas por Frauenholz, em Munique (1809), como Œuvres complètes de Ferdinand Kobell, outra de 179 páginas foi publicada por Kugler (Stuttgart, 1842). Suas placas marcam um avanço distinto no tratamento da gravura de paisagem na Alemanha. Ele era neto de Johann Heinrich Kobell, que veio para Mannheim de Frankfurt em 1720. Ele foi o pai de Wilhelm von Kobell, e o irmão de Franz Kobell, ambos pintores.
