Gainsborough Dupont
Imitó el estilo de su tío
Gainsborough Dupont fue un artista británico, sobrino y alumno de Thomas Gainsborough, R.A.. Dupont nació en Sudbury, Suffolk, el 20 de diciembre de 1754, hijo mayor de Sarah, la hermana de Thomas Gainsborough, y de su esposo Philip Dupont. En 1772 fue aprendiz de Gainsborough, para quien continuó trabajando hasta la muerte de este último en 1788. Fue el único asistente que se sabe que Gainsborough empleó. También se formó en las Royal Academy Schools, donde se convirtió en estudiante en marzo de 1775. Dupont se hizo cargo del estudio de Gainsborough en Schomberg House en 1788 y se trasladó a Bloomsbury en 1793, tras la muerte de la viuda de Gainsborough. Pintó retratos y paisajes con un estilo similar al de su tío, y también paisajes con ruinas arquitectónicas, en los que imitó a Nicolas Poussin. Su obra principal es un gran cuadro que contiene los retratos de los hermanos mayores de Trinity House, que se encuentra en su sala de audiencias en Tower Hill.
