Gainsborough Dupont era un artista britannico, nipote e allievo di Thomas Gainsborough, R.A.. Dupont nacque a Sudbury, nel Suffolk, il 20 dicembre 1754, figlio maggiore di Sarah, sorella di Thomas Gainsborough, e di suo marito Philip Dupont. Nel 1772 divenne apprendista di Gainsborough, per il quale continuò a lavorare fino alla morte di quest'ultimo nel 1788. Fu l'unico assistente che si sa sia stato impiegato da Gainsborough. Si formò anche presso le Royal Academy Schools, dove divenne studente nel marzo 1775. Dupont rilevò lo studio di Gainsborough a Schomberg House nel 1788 e si trasferì a Bloomsbury nel 1793, in seguito alla morte della vedova di Gainsborough. Dipinse ritratti e paesaggi in uno stile simile a quello di suo zio, e anche paesaggi con rovine architettoniche, in cui imitò Nicolas Poussin. La sua opera principale è un grande quadro contenente i ritratti dei fratelli anziani della Trinity House, che si trova nella loro aula di tribunale su Tower Hill.
