Gainsborough Dupont

Gainsborough Dupont foi um artista britânico, sobrinho e aluno de Thomas Gainsborough, R.A.. Dupont nasceu em Sudbury, Suffolk, a 20 de dezembro de 1754, filho mais velho de Sarah, irmã de Thomas Gainsborough, e do seu marido Philip Dupont. Em 1772, foi aprendiz de Gainsborough, para quem continuou a trabalhar até à morte deste em 1788. Foi o único assistente que se sabe ter sido empregado por Gainsborough. Também frequentou as Royal Academy Schools, onde se tornou estudante em março de 1775. Dupont assumiu o ateliê de Gainsborough em Schomberg House em 1788 e mudou-se para Bloomsbury em 1793, após a morte da viúva de Gainsborough. Pintou retratos e paisagens num estilo semelhante ao do seu tio, e também paisagens com ruínas arquitetónicas, nas quais imitou Nicolas Poussin. A sua obra principal é um grande quadro contendo os retratos dos irmãos mais velhos da Trinity House, que se encontra na sua sala de audiências em Tower Hill.
