萊頓精細繪畫大師
赫里特·道（Gerrit Dou），又稱傑拉德（Gerard）以及Douw或Dow，是荷蘭黃金時代的畫家，其小巧且高度拋光的畫作是萊頓精細畫派（Leiden fijnschilders）的典型代表。他專攻風俗畫場景，並以其錯視畫「壁龕」作品和具有強烈明暗對比的燭光夜景而聞名。他是倫勃朗的學生。 杜出生於萊頓，他的父親是一位彩色玻璃製造商。他師從巴托洛梅烏斯·多倫多學習繪畫，隨後在彼得·庫溫霍恩的彩色玻璃工坊接受訓練。1628年2月，年僅十四歲的他被父親送到住在附近的倫勃朗（當時約21歲）的工作室學習繪畫。在與倫勃朗相處的約三年時間裡，他掌握了著色技巧以及更為微妙的明暗對比效果，其早期作品中有多幅反映了老師的風格，尤其是他22歲時的一幅自畫像，以及《盲眼的托比特去見他的兒子》。 然而，在他職業生涯的較早階段，他便發展出一種獨具特色的個人風格，與倫勃朗的風格大相逕庭，並培養出一種細膩而繁複的處理手法。據說他畫一隻手就要花費五天時間，其作品精細至極，以至於他不得不親自製作畫筆。
