Hans Bock el Viejo

Hans Bock fue un pintor y dibujante aleman del siglo XVI. Floreció en Basilea, donde ejecutó varios frescos grandes, que le ganaron mucha fama. Es descrito como un "artista extraordinariamente talentoso", el "símbolo de toda su época" y el "pintor y dibujante principal" en su período del arte aleman. Bock probablemente estaba trabajando en Basilea desde 1570; en 1572 pagó la membresía al gremio local de pintores. Se le concedió la ciudadanía de Basilea el 18 de julio de 1572. Es probable que haya educado al joven Joseph Heintz en el dibujo. Desde 1588 hasta 1591, cooperó con el erudito Basilius Amerbach en la excavación del teatro romano Augusta Raurica, proporcionando ilustraciones del sitio recién excavado. Bock tuvo cinco hijos; Emanuel Bock el Viejo, Felix Bock, Hans Bock el Joven, Niklaus Bock y Peter Bock.
