Hans Bock fu un pittore e disegnatore tedesco del XVI secolo. Fiorì a Basilea, dove eseguì diversi grandi affreschi, che gli procurarono molta fama. Viene descritto come un "artista straordinariamente talentuoso", il "simbolo di tutta la sua epoca" e il "pittore e disegnatore principale" nel suo periodo dell'arte tedesca. Bock probabilmente lavorava a Basilea già dal 1570; nel 1572 pagò per l'ammissione alla corporazione locale dei pittori. Gli fu concessa la cittadinanza di Basilea il 18 luglio 1572. È probabile che abbia educato il giovane Joseph Heintz nell'arte del disegno. Dal 1588 al 1591, collaborò con lo studioso Basilius Amerbach nello scavo del teatro romano di Augusta Raurica, fornendo illustrazioni del sito appena scavato. Bock ebbe cinque figli; Emanuel Bock il Vecchio, Felix Bock, Hans Bock il Giovane, Niklaus Bock e Peter Bock.
